Before You Begin
Packing and moving is not the easiest thing to do. However, Magic Movers has developed a moving checklist of things you need to do and the right supplies for the job, all at an affordable price. We also have some helpful packing tips to make your packing job a whole lot easier.
Taking an inventory
We find that most people we move have unused items in their home that are taking up a lot of space in their home and cost to move. Prior to the move is the perfect time to start organizing and discarding these items. A good place to start is by gathering all unwanted clothing and furniture and donates to charitable organizations. Also locate all important documents and items such as medicines, plane tickets, passports, etc.
Creating a Checklist
The best packing tip we can give you is to use quality packing supplies. Grocery and liquor store boxes might seem like a great bargain at first but they are not constructed to handle the weight of household items and placing your things in them places them at risk for damage in the move. They also come in many different sizes so stacking is a real challenge leading to boxes shifting during transportation. For information on ordering supplies click here.
Before you start make sure you have plenty of the following supplies on hand:
l Appropriately-sized packing boxes
l Packing Paper (use clean packing paper instead of newspaper because the ink can transfer to your delicate items)
l Use sturdy packing tape; masking tape and duct tape are not recommended
l Black permanent markers for labeling boxes and describing contents and the room they go to. This should be done on at least 3 sides to make identification during moving easy.

Some more helpful tips
l Keep in mind that large boxes can become heavy very fast Use small boxes for heavy items such as books, cds, records, canned goods etc. Use medium boxes for pots and pans, lampshades, toys, etc. Use Large and extra large boxes for folded clothes, linens, toys, pillows and other lighter items. Use dishpacks for dishes, china lamps electronics (if you don’t have the original boxes)and other fragile items. Use picture boxes for mirrors and pictures. Use wardrobes for hanging clothes (never pack to many clothes in these boxes as it will cause them to collapse).
l Never pack flammable items like matches, aerosol cans, perishables, glass jars with liquid, and chemicals.
l Use plenty of packing paper.
