Books and Magazines:
When packing, start at top of the bookcase to prevent it from toppling. Books should be packed in small "book boxes". Small or medium-sized books can be packed either lying flat or standing upright. Large heavy books should be stored lying flat. Never store books resting on the spine or the fore-edge (the front edge opposite the spine), as this can seriously damage bindings. Make sure to use plenty of newsprint to prevent books from shifting as shifting can cause damage to books
When laying books flat alternate spines and fore-edges so they come out even on the top of the box. Pack larger, heavier books at the bottom of the box, with smaller, lighter ones on top. Instead of searching for the perfect size book, use crumpled paper ti fill a hole. Leather-bound books should be wrapped in paper as they can stick together.Magazines may be stacked flat or on edge in a book box. Do not over-pack, as this can crunch books and create moving difficulty.
Files - Lateral and Vertical:
All lateral filing cabinets must be packed as these cabinets can be extremely heavy and unstable. Only the top two drawers of a vertical file need to be emptied. All desk drawers should be emptied as the desk will have to be turned sideways to move out of rooms and items in drawers will fall out at this time
Record Albums/CD's:
Records, Cds. DVD’s, and Video tapes should be packed on end in a small book box.
