Pictures and Lamps
Lamps and Lampshades:
Start each box with a layer of crumpled newsprint(we recommend unprinted as it will not leave marks on other items. Always stand lamp up in box. Never pack a lamp and its shade in the same moving box. Before packing the lamp, remove its harp and light bulb. Pack these parts together using packing paper. Then remove the shade, and pack it in a box.
The lamp itself should be packed in brown paper pads. Bubblewrap may be used but if it is going to be stored outside this is not recommended as it may get to hot and stick to items. Multiple lamps may be packed together, however, always use plenty of crumpled packing paper or other cushioning material on the top, bottom and sides to prevent shifting during the move. It is equally important to avoid overpacking a box containing a lampshade, as too much cushioning material could potentially damage the shade. However, shades should always be boxed for protection; and delicate shades should be boxed individually. Silk lampshades should always be boxed alone with no additional materials, as the fabric has a "memory" which may retain indentations from paper.
Mark all boxes properly. Load all lamp boxes in an upright position in the truck.
Paintings, Mirrors, and Pictures:
We offer an assortment of specialty boxes for paintings, mirrors, wall hangings and flat glass. In most cases you can pack two pictures in one box. Each picture or mirror must be protected from one another. Wrap all pictures in paperpads. Never use bubble wrap on pictures as it can stick to picture frames. Never put unprotected items into any moving box. When packing pictures / mirrors, keep the glass face-to-face, with the backs against the outside of the boxes. A piece of cardboard can be placed between the glass for added protection. Use a box size that fits the pictures / mirrors. Smaller pictures may be packed in a dishpack box, in order to better protect them..
After setting up the picture / mirror box, prepare the bottom of the box with crumpled packing paper on the bottom of the box to act as a cushion. After you place the item in the packing box, add additional packing paper along the sides and top to prevent any shifting. A properly packed box will have no movement inside. Label the box with its contents and room destination.
